Darcy White

Darcy White, a Canadian conceptual video artist that I saw when I lived in Toronto in 2004, recently had a show at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade. One of the youngest artists to be shown at MOCAB much less have a solo show, Darcy's break into Eastern Europe will influence the emerging art scene at the Faculties there for years I am sure. The image above is a still from the video, Blue, that I saw at a gallery (can't remember the name) on West Queen Street (the best part of town imo). Being back in LA, I do miss the compactness of gallery districts in Toronto, which I always described as a smaller, cleaner, friendlier New York. Either way, the video reminds me of an Eames film, powers of 10. It doesn't directly reference planets and stars but it really seems to. The scale of the video was the impressive part, aside from Pippolitti Rist, I haven't seen anyone working with video this size successfully.
